What is Google’s search market share in 2026?
1. Google has 89.94% of the worldwide search engine market
StatCounter Global Stats data for September 2026 puts Google’s worldwide search engine market share at 89.94% across all devices. Bing is a distant second at 5.29%, followed by Yahoo (1.36%), Yandex (1.3%), DuckDuckGo (0.74%) and Baidu (0.44%).
| Search engine | Worldwide share, September 2026 |
|---|---|
| 89.94% | |
| Bing | 5.29% |
| Yahoo | 1.36% |
| Yandex | 1.3% |
| DuckDuckGo | 0.74% |
| Baidu | 0.44% |
2. Google handles 95.68% of mobile searches
On mobile devices Google’s lead is even larger. StatCounter’s mobile search data shows Google at 95.68% of worldwide mobile search in September 2026, with Yandex at 1.21% and Bing at just 0.69%. Google’s position as the default search engine on Android phones and in Apple’s Safari browser helps explain the gap.
3. Google’s Search and other revenue grew 17% in Q2 2026
In Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings remarks (July 22, 2026), CEO Sundar Pichai reported 17% revenue growth in Search and other, after 19% growth in Q1 2026. Despite competition from AI chatbots, Google says search usage reached an all-time high during the 2026 World Cup.
How many Google searches end without a click?
4. 68.01% of US Google searches end without a click
SparkToro’s 2026 zero-click study (June 9, 2026), based on Similarweb’s US desktop and mobile panel for January to April 2026, found that 68.01% of Google searches ended without a click on any result. That is up from 60.45% in 2024 and 49% in 2019. SparkToro notes the true rate is likely higher because the panel excludes searches in the Google app.
5. Users click a result on 8% of visits when an AI summary appears, versus 15% without
Pew Research Center’s 2025 study tracked the browsing of 900 US adults in March 2025. When a Google search showed an AI summary, users clicked a traditional search result on 8% of visits, compared with 15% when no summary appeared. They clicked a link inside the AI summary on just 1% of visits.
6. Users ended their browsing session on 26% of searches with an AI summary
The same Pew Research Center study found that users ended their browsing session entirely on 26% of Google results pages with an AI summary, compared with 16% of pages with only traditional results. In other words, many people treat the AI answer as the end of the search.
7. AI Overviews correlate with a 58% lower click-through rate for the #1 result
Ahrefs’ February 2026 study of 300,000 keywords found that when an AI Overview appears, the top-ranking page’s average click-through rate is 58% lower than expected, up from a 34.5% reduction in Ahrefs’ April 2025 study. For AI Overview keywords, position-one CTR fell from 7.3% in December 2023 to 1.6% in December 2025. The effect shrinks lower down the page, from a 50.8% reduction at position 2 to 19.4% at position 10.
8. 99.2% of keywords that trigger AI Overviews are informational
According to Ahrefs’ 2025 AI Overviews research, 99.2% of keywords that trigger AI Overviews have informational intent. Commercial and transactional searches (“buy”, “pricing”, brand names) are much less likely to show an AI Overview, so they still send relatively more clicks.
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode statistics
9. 18% of Google searches produced an AI summary in March 2025
In Pew Research Center’s browsing data, 18% of all Google searches (12,593 of 68,879 unique searches) produced an AI summary in March 2025. SparkToro’s 2026 study estimates AI Overviews now appear on more than 20% of searches.
10. AI Overviews have more than 2 billion monthly users
Google said in its Q2 2025 earnings remarks that AI Overviews had over 2 billion monthly users across more than 200 countries and territories and 40 languages. Google also said AI Overviews drive over 10% more queries globally for the types of queries that show them.
11. Google’s AI Mode passed 1 billion monthly active users
In Alphabet’s Q2 2026 earnings remarks, Sundar Pichai said AI Mode, Google’s chatbot-style search experience, had surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, up from more than 100 million in the US and India a year earlier.
12. Only 0.34% of Google searches reached AI Mode in early 2026
Despite AI Mode’s large user count, SparkToro’s clickstream data shows that only 0.34% of US Google searches reached AI Mode from January to April 2026. Most people still use the classic results page, where AI Overviews, not AI Mode, are the main AI feature.
13. AI Mode queries are three times longer than traditional searches
According to Alphabet’s Q4 2025 earnings remarks (February 4, 2026), queries in AI Mode are three times longer than traditional searches, and daily AI Mode queries per user in the US doubled after launch. People ask AI Mode full questions rather than typing two or three keywords.
14. Nearly one in six AI Mode queries uses voice or images
In the same Q4 2025 remarks, Google said nearly one in six AI Mode queries are non-text, using voice or images. Multimodal searching through Google Lens and voice is becoming a normal way to search, especially on phones.
Google search advertising statistics
15. US search advertising revenue reached $114.2 billion in 2025
The IAB/PwC Internet Advertising Revenue Report (April 16, 2026) puts US search advertising revenue at $114.2 billion in 2025, up 11% year over year, slower than the 15.9% growth seen in 2024. Social media ($117.7 billion) narrowly overtook search as the largest digital ad channel. With roughly nine in ten searches happening on Google, most of that budget is spent on Google Ads.
What do these Google search statistics mean for your website?
Google is still where almost all searching starts, but fewer searches end with a visit to a website. Informational content is the most exposed to AI Overviews, while branded and commercial searches still send clicks. A distinctive brand name that people search for directly is therefore more valuable than ever.

How we compiled these statistics
We used Google’s own earnings remarks for usage figures, StatCounter for market share, Pew Research Center and SparkToro (Similarweb panel data) for click behavior, Ahrefs’ published CTR studies and the IAB/PwC report for ad revenue. Google no longer publishes a total daily search count, so we did not include one. All data is as of October 2026; older statistics were removed when no current source existed.
FAQs
What is Google’s search engine market share in 2026?
Google held 89.94% of the worldwide search engine market in September 2026, according to StatCounter Global Stats. Bing was second with 5.29%, followed by Yahoo at 1.36% and Yandex at 1.3%. On mobile devices Google’s share is even higher, at 95.68%, because it is the default search engine on most phones.
What percentage of Google searches result in a click?
Fewer than a third. SparkToro’s 2026 study of US Similarweb panel data found that 68.01% of Google searches from January to April 2026 ended without any click, up from 60.45% in 2024 and 49% in 2019. The true zero-click rate is probably higher because searches inside the Google app were not measured.
Do AI Overviews reduce clicks to websites?
Yes. Ahrefs’ February 2026 study found AI Overviews correlate with a 58% lower click-through rate for the top-ranking page. Pew Research Center found users clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, compared with 15% without one, and clicked links inside the summary on only 1% of visits.
How many people use Google AI Mode?
Google said in its Q2 2026 earnings remarks that AI Mode had surpassed 1 billion monthly active users. However, SparkToro’s clickstream data found only 0.34% of US Google searches reached AI Mode between January and April 2026, so most searching still happens on the classic results page with AI Overviews.
How many people use Google AI Overviews?
Google reported that AI Overviews had more than 2 billion monthly users across over 200 countries and territories and 40 languages in its Q2 2025 earnings remarks. Pew Research Center found AI summaries on 18% of Google searches in March 2025, and SparkToro estimates they now appear on more than 20% of searches.
Is Google losing search market share to AI chatbots?
Not much so far. StatCounter still shows Google at 89.94% of worldwide search in September 2026, and Alphabet reported 17% growth in Search and other revenue in Q2 2026. What is changing is behavior on Google itself: longer AI Mode queries, more voice and image searches, and fewer clicks to websites.
