A note on Utah’s 2026 law change
Utah reorganized its business entity statutes this year. Effective October 1, 2026, the former Model Registered Agents Act (Utah Code Title 16, Chapter 17) was repealed, and the registered agent provisions now sit in a new Title 16, Chapter 1a, Part 4, “Registered Agent of an Entity.” The rules on this page reflect the Division’s current forms and the law as it stood before the recodification. Who can be a registered agent in Utah?
Utah has used three categories:
- Commercial registered agent. A person or company listed with the Division as being in the business of serving as a registered agent. You name it; its address is already on file.
- Noncommercial registered agent. Any other individual or entity that agrees to serve, such as a member, manager, employee or attorney, listed with a Utah street address.
- An office or position within the entity. Instead of a named person, a company can designate a title, so whoever holds it receives service at the stated Utah address.
